One person killed, and three other people injured near 3800 W HARRISON ST in Garfield Park

A passenger was killed after a Saturday night angle collision in Garfield Park on May 18, 2024 at 11:10 PM. 3 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 3800 W HARRISON ST, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2017 KIA Soul was heading east. The police report described the driver, an unknown age male, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed; he was uninjured. An unknown age female passenger was killed; her airbag deployed. A 13-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed. An unknown age male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed.
• A 2023 Dodge Charger was heading north and was hit in the front. The driver, a 27-year-old woman, reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed.

Police were notified at 11:15 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,080th injurious crash reported in May 2024, and the 6,299th injurious crash reported in 2024. It was the 38th fatal crash for 2024.
