A passenger was killed after a Monday afternoon head on collision in Jefferson Park on August 26, 2019 at 3:48 PM. 4 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
The crash occurred near 6227 W GREGORY ST, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. The weather was rainy and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (an arrest was made); and, secondarily, to traveling the wrong way or on the wrong side.
There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:
- A 2019 Dodge RAM 1500 PU was heading east while driving the wrong way. The police report described the driver, a 58-year-old man, as going the wrong way and being under the influence of drugs. His airbag deployed from the front; he was uninjured.
- A 2012 Toyota Camry was heading west. The driver, a 40-year-old woman, reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed. A 33-year-old female passenger was killed. A 37-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed from the front. Two of her passengers reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
Police were notified at 3:49 PM and made a desk report. This was the 1,262nd injurious crash reported in August 2019, and the 10,454th injurious crash reported in 2019. It was the 63rd fatal crash for 2019.
