One person killed, and one other person injured near 1938 E 92ND ST in Calumet Heights

A driver was killed after a Wednesday early morning angle collision in Calumet Heights on January 7, 2026 at 2:29 AM.

The crash occurred near 1938 E 92ND ST, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 20 mph. There was a stop sign. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding a stop sign; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2009 GMC Sierra was heading east. The police report described the driver, a 39-year-old man, as being under the influence of alcohol. His airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered unspecified injuries.
• A 2015 Mazda CX-5 was heading north and was hit in the side-left. The driver, a 54-year-old man, was killed; his airbag deployed and he was trapped.

There was one other vehicle involved but not being driven: A 2023 Toyota Camry, hit in the front.

Police were notified at 2:29 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 246th injurious crash reported in January 2026, and the 246th injurious crash reported in 2026. It was the 4th fatal crash for 2026.
