One person killed, three people severely injured near 11100 S COTTAGE GROVE AVE in Roseland

A passenger was killed and three other passengers were severely injured after a Sunday afternoon angle collision in Roseland on November 5, 2023 at 1:36 PM.

The crash occurred near 11100 S COTTAGE GROVE AVE, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a stop sign. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash; and, secondarily, to disregarding traffic signals.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2020 Dodge RAM 1500 PU was involved in the crash. The police report described the driver, a 45-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. He was wearing a seat belt; he was uninjured. A 43-year-old female passenger was wearing a seat belt; she reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.
• A 2018 KIA Sorento was hit in the side-right. The police report did not have details about the driver. A 61-year-old female passenger was killed. An 8-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries. A 34-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 1:36 PM. This was the 228th injurious crash reported in November 2023, and the 14,220th injurious crash reported in 2023. It was the 121st fatal crash for 2023.
