One person killed, one person severely injured near 2900 S LAKE SHORE DR SB in Douglas

A passenger was killed and a driver was severely injured after a Tuesday afternoon collision with a fixed object in Douglas on April 29, 2025 at 4:56 PM.

The crash occurred near 2900 S LAKE SHORE DR SB, on a road divided by a median barrier. The posted speed limit was 45 mph. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report did not specify a cause for the crash.

There were three motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2008 Cadillac CTS was heading south. The police report described the driver, an 18-year-old man, as going too fast for conditions. He was not wearing a seat belt, his airbag deployed, and he was totally ejected; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries. An 18-year-old female passenger was not wearing a seat belt, her airbag deployed, and was trapped; she was killed.
  • A 2018 KIA Forte was heading north and was hit in the front. The driver, a 34-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt and her airbag did not deploy; she was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.
  • A 2012 Toyota Highlander was heading north and was hit in the front. The driver, a 38-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured.

Police were notified at 4:56 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,354th injurious crash reported in April 2025, and the 5,178th injurious crash reported in 2025. It was the 27th fatal crash for 2025.
