One pedestrian killed, one person severely injured near 6501 W HIGGINS AVE in Norwood Park

A pedestrian was killed and a driver was severely injured after a Friday afternoon collision in Norwood Park on March 14, 2025 at 3:11 PM.

The crash occurred near 6501 W HIGGINS AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a stop sign. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to reckless, careless, or aggressive driving.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2015 Yamaha was heading east. The driver, a 20-year-old man, was wearing a DOT-compliant motorcycle helmet and was totally ejected; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.
• A 2015 Toyota RAV4 was heading west and was hit in the front. The driver, a 71-year-old man, was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.

The police report described the pedestrian, a 26-year-old woman, as crossing the roadway where there were no traffic controls; she was killed.

Police were notified at 3:13 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 628th injurious crash reported in March 2025, and the 3,028th injurious crash reported in 2025. It was the 14th fatal crash for 2025.
