A pedestrian was killed after a Thursday evening hit-and-run collision in Chatham on May 10, 2018 at 5:53 PM. 5 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
The crash occurred near 7900 S LAFAYETTE AVE, on a one-way road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to reckless, careless, or aggressive driving; and, secondarily, to disregarding traffic signals.

- A 2010 Pontiac G6 operated by a rideshare service was heading south and was hit in the rear. The driver, a 40-year-old woman, reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag did not deploy. A 3-year-old female passenger was not in a child restraint and her airbag did not deploy; she reportedly suffered unspecified injuries. Three other passengers were uninjured.
- A 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe was heading south and was hit in the rear-left. The driver, a 53-year-old woman, reportedly suffered unspecified injuries; her airbag did not deploy. A 45-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered unspecified injuries; her airbag did not deploy.
A 55-year-old woman (pedestrian) was off the roadway; she was killed.
A 31-year-old man (pedestrian) reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
Police were notified at 5:56 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 519th injurious crash reported in May 2018, and the 5,358th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 34th fatal crash for 2018.
