One person killed, and four other people injured near 457 W 76TH ST in Grand Crossing

A driver was killed after a Friday night sideswipe same direction collision in Grand Crossing on July 31, 2020 at 10:40 PM. 4 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 457 W 76TH ST, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report did not specify a cause for the crash.

There were three motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2018 Buick Lacrosse was heading east while passing another vehicle. The police report described the driver, an unknown age male, as attempting to pass improperly. His airbag deployed and he was trapped; he was killed.
  • A 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was heading east and was hit in the rear-left-corner. The driver, a 50-year-old woman, reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed. An unknown age passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; their airbag deployed. A 4-year-old passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; their airbag deployed.
  • A 2019 Hyundai Elantra was heading west and was hit in the front. The driver, a 62-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt, her airbag deployed, and was trapped; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

There were four other vehicles involved but not being driven:

  • A 2017 Hyundai Accent, hit in the side-left-front.
  • A passenger vehicle of unknown make, hit in the side-left-front.
  • A 2008 Jeep Compass, hit in the side-left.
  • A 2002 Cadillac Escalade, hit in the side-left.

Police were notified at 10:40 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,538th injurious crash reported in July 2020, and the 7,860th injurious crash reported in 2020. It was the 75th fatal crash for 2020.
