One person killed, and three other people injured near 559 N LAKE SHORE DR NB in Streeterville

A driver was killed after a Saturday early morning head on collision in Streeterville on November 13, 2021 at 3:30 AM. 3 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 559 N LAKE SHORE DR NB, on a road divided by a median barrier. The posted speed limit was 35 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to traveling the wrong way or on the wrong side.

There were three motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2014 Volkswagen Jetta was heading south. The police report described the driver, an unknown age male, as going the wrong way. His airbag deployed; he was killed.
• A 2016 Mazda MAZDA3 was heading north and was hit in the front. The driver, a 24-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. A 24-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed. A 20-year-old male passenger was not wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
• A 2019 KIA Optima was heading north and was hit in the side-left. The driver, a 24-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt; he was uninjured.

Police were notified at 3:38 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 554th injurious crash reported in November 2021, and the 14,335th injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 129th fatal crash for 2021.
