One person killed near 5600 N HARLEM AVE in Norwood Park

A driver was killed after a Sunday evening turning collision in Norwood Park on September 26, 2021 at 7:35 PM.

The crash occurred near 5600 N HARLEM AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 35 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dusk, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way; and, secondarily, to an improper turn or failure to signal.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2005 Yamaha was heading south. The police report described the driver, a 37-year-old man, as failing to yield. He was not wearing a helmet; he was killed.
• A 2019 Toyota RAV4 was heading west while turning left and was hit in the side-right. The police report described the driver, a 31-year-old woman, as attempting an improper turn. She was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed; she was uninjured.

Police were notified at 7:35 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,363rd injurious crash reported in September 2021, and the 11,999th injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 108th fatal crash for 2021.
