One person killed, two people severely injured near 1600 W 119TH ST in Morgan Park

A driver was killed; and another driver and a passenger were severely injured after a Wednesday night angle collision in Morgan Park on May 22, 2024 at 11:52 PM.

The crash occurred near 1600 W 119TH ST, at an intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander was heading west. The police report described the driver, a 40-year-old man, as going too fast for conditions and having been drinking. His airbag deployed from the side; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.
  • A 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLS was heading north and was hit in the side-left-rear. The driver, a 45-year-old man, was killed; his airbag deployed from the side. A 27-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed from the front.

Police were notified at 11:55 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,321st injurious crash reported in May 2024, and the 6,540th injurious crash reported in 2024. It was the 40th fatal crash for 2024.
