One person killed, one person severely injured near 1026 E 67TH ST in Woodlawn

A driver was killed and a passenger was severely injured after a Thursday early morning head on collision in Woodlawn on May 17, 2018 at 3:47 AM.

The crash occurred near 1026 E 67TH ST, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to traveling the wrong way or on the wrong side; and, secondarily, to exceeding the posted speed limit.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe was heading east. The driver, an unknown age male, was killed; his airbag deployed from the front. An unknown age female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed from the front.
  • A 2002 Chevrolet Trail Blazer was heading west and was hit in the front-left. The police report did not have details about the 32-year-old male driver.

Police were notified at 3:47 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 809th injurious crash reported in May 2018, and the 5,648th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 37th fatal crash for 2018.
