One pedestrian killed, and one other person injured near 2759 W PETERSON AVE in West Ridge

A pedestrian was killed after a Monday morning turning collision in West Ridge on September 18, 2023 at 7:26 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 2759 W PETERSON AVE, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to reckless, careless, or aggressive driving; and, secondarily, to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2012 Volkswagen Touareg was heading east. The police report described the driver, an 18-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed from the front; he was uninjured.
• A 2014 Nissan Sentra was heading southwest while turning left and was hit in the front. The police report described the driver, an 18-year-old woman, as failing to yield. Her airbag deployed; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

A 33-year-old man (pedestrian) was off the roadway; he was killed.

Police were notified at 7:26 AM. This was the 916th injurious crash reported in September 2023, and the 11,714th injurious crash reported in 2023. It was the 102nd fatal crash for 2023.
