One person killed, and one other person injured near 200 E GARFIELD BLVD in Washington Park

A driver was killed after a Wednesday afternoon angle collision in Washington Park on October 23, 2024 at 12:09 PM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 200 E GARFIELD BLVD. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2011 Dodge Caravan was heading north. The police report described the driver, a 42-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
  • A vehicle of unknown make was heading east and was hit in the front-right-corner. The driver, a 35-year-old man, was killed.

Police were notified at 12:10 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,249th injurious crash reported in October 2024, and the 15,228th injurious crash reported in 2024. It was the 94th fatal crash for 2024.
