One person killed, five people severely injured near 1600 W IRVING PARK RD in Lake View

A driver was killed; and three passengers and two other drivers were severely injured after a Wednesday night hit-and-run angle collision in Lake View on June 3, 2020 at 9:57 PM.

The crash occurred near 1600 W IRVING PARK RD, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to reckless, careless, or aggressive driving.

There were three motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2015 Ford Explorer operated by police was heading east and was hit in the front. The police report described the driver, a 22-year-old man, as responding to an emergency call. He was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries. A 25-year-old male passenger was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.
  • A 2005 Ford Explorer was heading north and was hit in the side-left-front. The driver, a 37-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed from the front; she was killed.
  • A 2005 Hummer H2 was heading west while slowing or stopping in traffic and was hit in the front-left-corner. The driver, a 62-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries. A 44-year-old female passenger was wearing a seat belt and her airbag did not deploy; she reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries. A 29-year-old female passenger was wearing a seat belt; she reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.

The police report described the occupant of a non-contact vehicle, a 22-year-old man, as attempting to evade police; he was uninjured.

There was one other vehicle involved but not being driven: An SUV of unknown make.

Police were notified at 9:58 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 109th injurious crash reported in June 2020, and the 5,151st injurious crash reported in 2020. It was the 43rd fatal crash for 2020.
