One pedestrian killed, and one other person injured near 1200 S DAMEN AVE in Little Italy, Uic
A pedestrian was killed after a Friday early morning angle collision in Little Italy, Uic on May 6, 2022 at 2:32 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
The crash occurred near 1200 S DAMEN AVE, on a road divided by a median barrier. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was rainy and below freezing, and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding other traffic signs; and, secondarily, to improper lane usage.
There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:
- A 2014 Cadillac ATS was heading south. The police report described the driver, a 21-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed and he was trapped; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
- A 2015 Toyota RAV4 was heading east and was hit in the front-left-corner. The driver, a 19-year-old man, was uninjured; his airbag deployed from the front.
The police report described the pedestrian, a 33-year-old man, as traveling with traffic; he was killed.
Police were notified at 2:37 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 221st injurious crash reported in May 2022, and the 4,687th injurious crash reported in 2022. It was the 45th fatal crash for 2022.
