One pedestrian killed, and one other person injured near 6459 S CICERO AVE in Clearing

A pedestrian was killed after a Sunday early morning angle collision in Clearing on August 28, 2022 at 1:35 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 6459 S CICERO AVE, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to improper overtaking or passing.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2016 Chevrolet Corvette was heading south. The police report described the driver, a 27-year-old man, as failing to yield. He was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed from the front; he was uninjured.
• A 2014 Hyundai Velostar was heading west and was hit in the front-right-corner. The driver, a 19-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed from the front; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

A 40-year-old woman (pedestrian) was in a crosswalk. The police report described her as crossing against the signal; she was killed.

Police were notified at 1:44 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,221st injurious crash reported in August 2022, and the 10,261st injurious crash reported in 2022. It was the 86th fatal crash for 2022.
