One pedestrian killed near 4010 W FIFTH AVE in Garfield Park

A pedestrian was killed after a Tuesday night hit-and-run collision in Garfield Park on August 2, 2022 at 9:30 PM.

The crash occurred near 4010 W FIFTH AVE, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A Nissan was heading east. The police report described the driver, an unknown age person, as failing to yield. The police report did not have additional details about the driver.
  • A 2017 Infiniti Q50 was heading west and was hit in the front. The driver, a 20-year-old man, was uninjured; his airbag did not deploy.

The police report described the pedestrian, a 58-year-old man, as crossing the roadway where there were no traffic controls; he was killed.
