One person killed, and one other person injured near 699 S AUSTIN BLVD in Austin

A driver was killed after a Sunday early morning angle collision in Austin on April 11, 2021 at 3:25 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 699 S AUSTIN BLVD, at a center turn lane. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2020 Dodge Power RAM was heading west. The police report described the driver, a 22-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed from the front; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
• A 2016 KIA Soul was heading north and was hit in the front-left-corner. The driver, a 67-year-old woman, was killed; her airbag deployed.

Police were notified at 3:37 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 490th injurious crash reported in April 2021, and the 3,427th injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 24th fatal crash for 2021.
