One person killed, and one other person injured near 5000 S CARPENTER ST in New City

A driver was killed after a Sunday evening collision with a parked motor vehicle in New City on February 11, 2018 at 5:07 PM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 5000 S CARPENTER ST, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. The weather was snowy and the roadway was snowy or slushy. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to a driver's physical condition.

A 2002 Mitsubishi Galant was heading east. The police report described the driver, a 42-year-old man, as being ill or having fainted. His airbag deployed from the front; he was killed. A 5-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed from the front.

There were two other vehicles involved but not being driven:

• A 2003 Mazda Protege, hit in the side-left.
• A 1995 Dodge, hit in the rear.

Police were notified at 5:07 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 358th injurious crash reported in February 2018, and the 1,695th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 9th fatal crash for 2018.
