One pedestrian killed near 8700 S COTTAGE GROVE AVE in Chatham

A pedestrian was killed after a Thursday night hit-and-run angle collision in Chatham on November 26, 2020 at 11:03 PM.

The crash occurred near 8700 S COTTAGE GROVE AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2016 Honda Civic was heading north. The driver, a 31-year-old man, was uninjured; his airbag deployed.
• A 2002 Dodge Durango was heading west and was hit in the side-right. The driver, a 30-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt; he was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.

A 64-year-old man (pedestrian) was killed.

Police were notified at 11:03 PM. This was the 911th injurious crash reported in November 2020, and the 13,025th injurious crash reported in 2020. It was the 121st fatal crash for 2020.
