Two people killed, two people severely injured, and one other person injured near 1 S HALSTED ST in Greektown

Two passengers were killed and two other passengers were severely injured after a Thursday early morning hit-and-run angle collision in Greektown on August 29, 2019 at 2:20 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 1 S HALSTED ST, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 1999 Pontiac Trans Sport/montana was heading south. The police report described the driver, an unknown age female, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. The police report did not have additional details about the driver. A 28-year-old male passenger was killed; his airbag did not deploy and he was totally ejected. A 28-year-old male passenger was killed; his airbag did not deploy. A 32-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag did not deploy. A 21-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag did not deploy. A 27-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag did not deploy.
  • A 2018 Toyota Camry operated as a taxi was heading west. The driver, a 42-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed from the front; he was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.

Police were notified at 2:20 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,373rd injurious crash reported in August 2019, and the 10,565th injurious crash reported in 2019. It was the 66th fatal crash for 2019.
