One person killed near 4601 W JACKSON BLVD in Austin

A driver was killed after a Saturday morning collision with a fixed object in Austin on August 25, 2018 at 5:01 AM.

The crash occurred near 4601 W JACKSON BLVD, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a stop sign. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was rainy, and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to exceeding the posted speed limit; and, secondarily, to improper overtaking or passing.

A 2002 Chrysler was heading south. The police report described the driver, a 45-year-old man, as going too fast for conditions. His airbag deployed; he was killed.

Police were notified at 5:03 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,205th injurious crash reported in August 2018, and the 10,699th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 74th fatal crash for 2018.
