One person killed near 8828 S ASHLAND AVE in Auburn Gresham

A driver was killed after a Tuesday morning head on collision in Auburn Gresham on May 4, 2021 at 11:52 AM.

The crash occurred near 8828 S ASHLAND AVE, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to traveling the wrong way or on the wrong side; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 1999 Saturn was heading north. The police report described the driver, a 35-year-old man, as going too fast for conditions. His airbag deployed from the front; he was killed.
• A bus of unknown make operated as a school bus was heading south and was hit in the front. The driver, a 52-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt; she was uninjured.

Police were notified at 1:53 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 189th injurious crash reported in May 2021, and the 4,406th injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 29th fatal crash for 2021.
