One person killed, one person severely injured near 405 S HOMAN AVE in Garfield Park
A driver was killed and a passenger was severely injured after a Sunday early morning hit-and-run head on collision in Garfield Park on June 20, 2021 at 2:39 AM.
The crash occurred near 405 S HOMAN AVE, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to improper overtaking or passing.
There were three motor vehicles involved in the crash:
- A 2013 Audi S8 was heading south. The police report did not have details about the male driver, or his two passengers.
- A 2020 CAN-AM was heading north and was hit in the total (all areas). The driver, a 28-year-old man, was killed; he was totally ejected. A 24-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.
- A 2012 Nissan Sentra was heading south and was hit in the rear-left-corner. The driver, a 28-year-old man, was uninjured; his airbag did not deploy.
There was one other vehicle involved but not being driven: A 2017 Nissan Altima, hit in the side-left.
Police were notified at 2:39 AM. This was the 1,105th injurious crash reported in June 2021, and the 6,813th injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 55th fatal crash for 2021.
