One cyclist severely injured near 900 W MADISON ST in West Loop

A cyclist was severely injured after a Saturday night hit-and-run collision in West Loop on April 16, 2022 at 10:10 PM.

The crash occurred near 900 W MADISON ST, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a stop sign. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to improper lane usage; and, secondarily, to reckless, careless, or aggressive driving.

A 2008 Volkswagen Jetta was heading east while avoiding vehicles or objects. The driver, a 30-year-old woman, was uninjured; her airbag did not deploy.

A 42-year-old man (cyclist) was not wearing a helmet and wearing contrasting clothing. The police report described him as traveling with traffic; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 10:13 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 634th injurious crash reported in April 2022, and the 3,860th injurious crash reported in 2022.
