One person killed, one person severely injured, and four other people injured near 5606 W 55TH ST in Garfield Ridge

A driver was killed and a passenger was severely injured after a Thursday early morning turning collision in Garfield Ridge on March 27, 2025 at 3:25 AM. 4 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 5606 W 55TH ST, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2015 Ford Fusion was heading east while making a U-turn. The police report described the driver, a 28-year-old man, as attempting an improper turn. His airbag deployed and he was trapped; he was killed. A 31-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed and she was trapped.
• A 2022 Hyundai Palisade was heading west and was hit in the front. The driver, a 29-year-old man, reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed from the front. A 32-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed from the front. A 20-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed from the front. A 17-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed from the front.

Police were notified at 3:30 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,190th injurious crash reported in March 2025, and the 3,590th injurious crash reported in 2025. It was the 18th fatal crash for 2025.
