One person killed, one person severely injured near 8300 S YATES BLVD in South Chicago

A driver was killed and another driver was severely injured after a Monday early morning angle collision in South Chicago on June 11, 2018 at 3:27 AM.

The crash occurred near 8300 S YATES BLVD, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was rainy, and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (an arrest was made); and, secondarily, to disregarding traffic signals.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2015 Toyota Corolla was heading west. The police report described the driver, a 41-year-old man, as going too fast for conditions and being under the influence of alcohol. His airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.
• A 2008 Chevrolet Impala was heading north and was hit in the front-right. The driver, a 23-year-old man, was killed; his airbag deployed.

Police were notified at 3:30 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 510th injurious crash reported in June 2018, and the 6,958th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 43rd fatal crash for 2018.
