One person killed, two people severely injured, and two other people injured near 9500 S JEFFERY AVE in South Deering

A driver was killed; and a passenger and another driver were severely injured after a Sunday early morning angle collision in South Deering on May 31, 2020 at 2:16 AM. 2 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 9500 S JEFFERY AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2020 Jeep Renegade was heading south. The police report described the driver, a 21-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed; he was killed. A 19-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed.
• A 2020 Nissan Rogue was heading west and was hit in the front. The driver, a 30-year-old man, reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed. A 20-year-old female passenger was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. A 24-year-old male passenger was wearing a seat belt; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 2:16 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 976th injurious crash reported in May 2020, and the 4,990th injurious crash reported in 2020. It was the 38th fatal crash for 2020.
