Two people killed, and three other people injured near 4300 W LAKE ST in Garfield Park
Two passengers were killed after a Saturday early morning turning collision in Garfield Park on July 27, 2024 at 2:10 AM. 3 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
The crash occurred near 4300 W LAKE ST, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a stop sign. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to an improper turn or failure to signal; and, secondarily, to reckless, careless, or aggressive driving.
There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:
- A 2007 Pontiac Grand AM was heading north while turning left. The police report described the driver, an unknown age male, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed and he was partially ejected; he was uninjured. A 23-year-old male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed. A 20-year-old male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed. An unknown age passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; their airbag deployed. A 28-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed.
- A 2021 Dodge Durango was heading west and was hit in the front. The driver, a 25-year-old man, was uninjured; his airbag deployed. A 26-year-old passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; their airbag deployed.
Police were notified at 2:10 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,438th injurious crash reported in July 2024, and the 10,237th injurious crash reported in 2024. It was the 63rd fatal crash for 2024.
