Two people killed, including 1 pedestrian near 18 N CICERO AVE in Austin

A driver and a pedestrian were killed after a Friday night collision in Austin on December 2, 2022 at 11:23 PM.

The crash occurred near 18 N CICERO AVE, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to a driver's physical condition; and, secondarily, to reckless, careless, or aggressive driving.

There were five motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2006 Cadillac SRX was heading north. The police report described the driver, a 37-year-old man, as going too fast for conditions. His airbag deployed; he was killed. Three other passengers were uninjured.
  • A 2008 Buick Enclave was heading north and was hit in the rear. The driver, a 47-year-old man, was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.
  • A 2011 Dodge Nitro was heading north while turning left. The police report did not have details about the 23-year-old female driver.
  • A 2009 Lincoln MKS was heading south and was hit in the front. The driver, a 49-year-old man, was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.
  • A 2021 Toyota RAV4 was heading south. The driver, a 29-year-old man, was uninjured.

A 50-year-old man (pedestrian) was in a crosswalk; he was killed.

Police were notified at 11:23 PM. This was the 79th injurious crash reported in December 2022, and the 14,844th injurious crash reported in 2022. It was the 121st fatal crash for 2022.
