One person killed, and one other person injured near 9813 S AVENUE G in East Side

A passenger was killed after a Sunday morning collision with a fixed object in East Side on October 7, 2018 at 8:00 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 9813 S AVENUE G, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 15 mph. The weather was rainy and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to exceeding a safe speed for conditions; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

A 2001 Ford Explorer was heading south. The police report described the driver, a 26-year-old woman, as going too fast for conditions. She was wearing a seat belt and her airbag did not deploy; she was uninjured. A 3-year-old male passenger was not in a child restraint, his airbag did not deploy, and was totally ejected; he was killed. A 5-year-old female passenger was wearing a seat belt and her airbag did not deploy; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. Two other passengers were uninjured.

Police were notified at 8:20 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 338th injurious crash reported in October 2018, and the 12,796th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 86th fatal crash for 2018.
