One person killed, and six other people injured near 1415 S MICHIGAN AVE in Near South Side

A driver was killed after a Sunday evening turning collision in Near South Side on November 20, 2022 at 7:55 PM. 6 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 1415 S MICHIGAN AVE, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to reckless, careless, or aggressive driving.

There were three motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2011 Infiniti G37 was heading south. The police report described the driver, an 18-year-old man, as going too fast for conditions. His airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
• A Hyundai Sonata was heading east while making a U-turn and was hit in the side-left. The police report described the driver, a 22-year-old man, as attempting to evade police. His airbag deployed; he was killed. An 18-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed. A 21-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed.
• A 2020 Jeep Compass was heading north and was hit in the front. The driver, a 32-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. A 13-year-old female passenger was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. A 14-year-old male passenger was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

There was one other vehicle involved but not being driven: A 2018 Toyota RAV4, hit in the side-left.

Police were notified at 7:55 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 880th injurious crash reported in November 2022, and the 14,355th injurious crash reported in 2022. It was the 114th fatal crash for 2022.
