One person killed, and one other person injured near 5100 S STATE ST in Washington Park

A passenger was killed after a Saturday early morning angle collision in Washington Park on September 17, 2022 at 2:00 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 5100 S STATE ST, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2022 Ford F150 was heading south. The police report described the driver, an 18-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed from the front; he was uninjured.
  • A 2018 Land Rover Range Rover was heading west and was hit in the side-right. The driver, a 44-year-old woman, reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed. A 44-year-old female passenger was killed; her airbag deployed.

Police were notified at 2:00 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 798th injurious crash reported in September 2022, and the 11,245th injurious crash reported in 2022. It was the 95th fatal crash for 2022.
