One cyclist killed near 2000 W WARREN BLVD in United Center

A cyclist was killed after a Wednesday morning collision in United Center on September 9, 2020 at 7:50 AM.

The crash occurred near 2000 W WARREN BLVD, at a t-intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was overcast and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding other traffic signs; and, secondarily, to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2010 Cadillac CTS was heading east and was hit in the front. The driver, a 31-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured.
• A 2007 Dodge Durango was heading east and was hit in the front. The driver, a 35-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt and her airbag did not deploy; she was uninjured.

A 28-year-old man (cyclist) was not wearing a helmet and he was totally ejected. The police report described him as crossing against the signal and disregarding traffic controls/signals; he was killed.

Police were notified at 7:52 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 405th injurious crash reported in September 2020, and the 9,805th injurious crash reported in 2020. It was the 94th fatal crash for 2020.
