One person killed near 5300 S DORCHESTER AVE in Hyde Park

A driver was killed after a Thursday night angle collision in Hyde Park on August 7, 2025 at 10:00 PM.

The crash occurred near 5300 S DORCHESTER AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a stop sign. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2022 Kawasaki Motorcycle was heading west. The police report described the driver, a 27-year-old man, as failing to yield. He was killed.
• A 2001 Honda Civic was heading south and was hit in the front-left-corner. The driver, a 20-year-old man, was uninjured. Two other passengers were uninjured.

Police were notified at 10:30 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 415th injurious crash reported in August 2025, and the 10,588th injurious crash reported in 2025. It was the 51st fatal crash for 2025.
