One person killed near 2101 W 59TH ST in Englewood

A driver was killed after a Saturday early morning turning collision in Englewood on June 5, 2021 at 1:57 AM.

The crash occurred near 2101 W 59TH ST, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2008 Ford Focus was heading east. The driver, a 28-year-old man, was killed; his airbag deployed.
• A 2008 Cimarron operated commercially was heading west while turning left and was hit in the rear-left-corner. The driver, a 30-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured.

Police were notified at 1:57 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 228th injurious crash reported in June 2021, and the 5,936th injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 50th fatal crash for 2021.
