Two people killed, and five other people injured near 8502 S PULASKI RD in Ashburn

A passenger and a driver were killed after a Wednesday night turning collision in Ashburn on March 3, 2021 at 9:30 PM. 5 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 8502 S PULASKI RD, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash; and, secondarily, to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2004 Lincoln Aviator was heading south. The police report described the driver, a 25-year-old woman, as failing to yield. Her airbag deployed; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. A 53-year-old female passenger was killed; her airbag deployed. A 32-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed. A 20-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed. A 19-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed. A 6-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed.
  • A 2000 Ford Explorer was heading north while turning left and was hit in the side-right-front. The driver, an 85-year-old man, was killed; his airbag deployed.

Police were notified at 9:30 PM. This was the 110th injurious crash reported in March 2021, and the 1,979th injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 13th fatal crash for 2021.
