Two people killed, and one other person injured near 3234 W DIVISION ST in Humboldt Park
A driver and a passenger were killed after a Thursday night collision with a parked motor vehicle in Humboldt Park on December 30, 2021 at 11:46 PM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
The crash occurred near 3234 W DIVISION ST, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals.
A 1998 Honda CR-V was heading west. The police report described the driver, an 18-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed; he was killed. An 18-year-old male passenger was killed; his airbag did not deploy. A 17-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag did not deploy. One other passenger was uninjured.
There were two other vehicles involved but not being driven:
- A 2012 Toyota Sienna, hit in the rear-left-corner.
- A 2002 Cadillac Escalade, hit in the rear.
Police were notified at 11:46 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,215th injurious crash reported in December 2021, and the 16,297th injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 156th fatal crash for 2021.
