One person killed, and one other person injured near 3401 W OGDEN AVE in North Lawndale
A driver was killed after a Tuesday morning angle collision in North Lawndale on July 28, 2020 at 8:03 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
The crash occurred near 3401 W OGDEN AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
There were four motor vehicles involved in the crash:
- A 2009 GMC Acadia was heading south. The police report described the driver, a 77-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. He was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
- A 2006 Ford F150 operated by construction/maintenance workers was heading northeast and was hit in the front-left-corner. The driver, a 49-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he was uninjured.
- A 2008 Chevrolet was heading northeast and was hit in the front. The driver, a 50-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed; she was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.
- A 2018 Ford was heading northeast and was hit in the front. The driver, a 57-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he was killed.
Police were notified at 8:03 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,347th injurious crash reported in July 2020, and the 7,669th injurious crash reported in 2020. It was the 72nd fatal crash for 2020.
