One person killed near 505 S WESTERN AVE in Little Italy, Uic

A driver was killed after a Wednesday afternoon hit-and-run rear to front collision in Little Italy, Uic on August 28, 2019 at 1:15 PM.

The crash occurred near 505 S WESTERN AVE, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to distraction from outside the vehicle.

There were three motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A vehicle of unknown make was involved in the crash. The police report did not have details about the driver.
  • A 2016 Nissan Rogue was heading east and was hit in the rear. The driver, a 30-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt; she was uninjured.
  • A 2018 Toyota RAV4 was heading north and was hit in the front. The driver, a 24-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was killed. One other passenger was uninjured.

Police were notified at 1:15 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,346th injurious crash reported in August 2019, and the 10,538th injurious crash reported in 2019. It was the 65th fatal crash for 2019.
