One person killed, one person severely injured, and two other people injured near 1600 S HOMAN AVE in North Lawndale

A driver was killed and a passenger was severely injured after a Thursday night hit-and-run angle collision in North Lawndale on October 15, 2020 at 10:48 PM.

The crash occurred near 1600 S HOMAN AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to reckless, careless, or aggressive driving.

There were three motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2014 Ford Fusion was heading north. The police report described the driver, an unknown age male, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. The police report did not have additional details about the driver. His passenger, a 17-year-old boy, reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.
• A 2011 Nissan Versa was heading west and was hit in the side-left. The driver, a 21-year-old woman, was killed; her airbag deployed.
• A 2008 Chevrolet Equinox was heading south and was hit in the front-left-corner. The driver, a 49-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed; she reportedly suffered unspecified injuries. A 55-year-old male passenger was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed from the front; he reportedly suffered unspecified injuries.

Police were notified at 10:48 PM. This was the 681st injurious crash reported in October 2020, and the 11,467th injurious crash reported in 2020. It was the 109th fatal crash for 2020.
