Two people killed, one person severely injured near 3159 W WALNUT ST in Garfield Park

A driver and a passenger were killed; and another passenger was severely injured after a Sunday early morning angle collision in Garfield Park on July 28, 2024 at 4:31 AM.

The crash occurred near 3159 W WALNUT ST, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a stop sign. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding a stop sign.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2014 Dodge Durango was heading east. The police report described the driver, an unknown age male, as going too fast for conditions. The police report did not have additional details about the driver.
• A 2000 Buick Century was heading south and was hit in the side-right-front. The driver, a 34-year-old woman, was killed; her airbag deployed. A 47-year-old female passenger was killed; her airbag deployed. A 32-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed.

Police were notified at 4:36 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,521st injurious crash reported in July 2024, and the 10,320th injurious crash reported in 2024. It was the 65th fatal crash for 2024.
