One person killed, one person severely injured, and one other person injured near 3800 W MADISON ST in Garfield Park

A driver was killed and another driver was severely injured after a Saturday morning angle collision in Garfield Park on October 1, 2022 at 11:45 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 3800 W MADISON ST, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2016 Hyundai Genesis was heading north. The police report described the driver, a 31-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed; he was killed.
• A 2015 Honda Civic was heading east and was hit in the side-right. The driver, a 63-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed from the front; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries. A 27-year-old female passenger was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

There were four other vehicles involved but not being driven:

• A 2006 Chevrolet Impala, hit in the rear.
• A 2006 Chevrolet, hit in the rear.
• A 2013 Hyundai Sonata, hit in the rear.
• A 2021 Nissan Maxima, hit in the rear.

Police were notified at 11:47 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 20th injurious crash reported in October 2022, and the 11,971st injurious crash reported in 2022. It was the 101st fatal crash for 2022.
