One person killed, and six other people injured near 5101 S WESTERN AVE in Gage Park

A driver was killed after a Tuesday afternoon rear end collision in Gage Park on July 3, 2018 at 1:45 PM. 5 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 5101 S WESTERN AVE, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to a driver's physical condition.

There were three motor vehicles involved in the crash:

The driver, a 54-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt and her airbag did not deploy; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. A 23-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag did not deploy. A 41-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag did not deploy. A 19-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag did not deploy. A 32-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag did not deploy. A 1-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered unspecified injuries; his airbag did not deploy.
  • A 2016 Ford Ford-Truck,van,suv, ETC operated commercially was heading north while slowing or stopping in traffic and was hit in the rear-right. The driver, a 50-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured.

Police were notified at 1:46 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 106th injurious crash reported in July 2018, and the 8,048th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 49th fatal crash for 2018.
