One person killed, four people severely injured, and three other people injured near 3401 W PETERSON AVE in North Park

A passenger was killed; and three other passengers and a driver were severely injured after a Tuesday evening angle collision in North Park on March 21, 2023 at 7:52 PM. 3 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 3401 W PETERSON AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2008 Saturn Aura was heading south. The police report described the driver, an 18-year-old man, as failing to yield. His airbag deployed from the front; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
  • A 2023 KIA Sorento was heading east and was hit in the side-left. The driver, a 46-year-old man, reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed from the side. A 78-year-old female passenger was killed; her airbag deployed from the side and she was trapped. An 81-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed from the side. A 36-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed from the side. A 9-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed from the front. A 16-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed from the side. A 3-year-old male passenger was in a child restraint and his airbag deployed from the side; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 7:55 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 804th injurious crash reported in March 2023, and the 2,962nd injurious crash reported in 2023. It was the 35th fatal crash for 2023.
