One person killed, one person severely injured near 1280 E 83RD ST in Avalon Park

A driver was killed and a passenger was severely injured after a Tuesday afternoon turning collision in Avalon Park on May 12, 2020 at 3:57 PM.

The crash occurred near 1280 E 83RD ST, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2012 Honda Odyssey was heading east while turning left. The police report described the driver, a 35-year-old woman, as failing to yield. She was wearing a seat belt; she was uninjured.
  • A 2009 Honda was heading west and was hit in the front. The driver, a 27-year-old man, was killed; he was totally ejected. A 25-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 4:00 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 354th injurious crash reported in May 2020, and the 4,368th injurious crash reported in 2020. It was the 32nd fatal crash for 2020.
