One person killed, and one other person injured near 6700 S KEDZIE AVE in Chicago Lawn

A driver was killed after a Monday morning turning collision in Chicago Lawn on August 28, 2023 at 11:45 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 6700 S KEDZIE AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way.

There were three motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2020 Subaru Forester was heading northwest while turning left. The police report described the driver, an 83-year-old woman, as failing to yield. She was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
• A 2015 Yamaha was heading south and was hit in the side-left. The driver, a 37-year-old man, was not wearing a helmet and was totally ejected; he was killed.
• A 2023 Toyota Corolla was heading east and was hit in the front. The driver, a 45-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.

Police were notified at 12:12 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,368th injurious crash reported in August 2023, and the 10,602nd injurious crash reported in 2023. It was the 90th fatal crash for 2023.
