One pedestrian killed near 1601 E 75TH ST in South Shore

A pedestrian was killed after a Thursday morning hit-and-run turning collision in South Shore on October 10, 2024 at 10:29 AM.

The crash occurred near 1601 E 75TH ST, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to inadequate driving skill, knowledge, or experience.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2013 Dodge Avenger was heading south while turning left. The police report described the driver, an unknown age female, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. The police report did not have additional details about the driver.
  • A 2014 Chevrolet Malibu was heading north and was hit in the front. The driver, a 27-year-old man, was uninjured; his airbag deployed from the front.

A 65-year-old woman (pedestrian) was in a crosswalk and wearing contrasting clothing. The police report described her as crossing with the signal; she was killed.

Police were notified at 10:40 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 559th injurious crash reported in October 2024, and the 14,538th injurious crash reported in 2024. It was the 90th fatal crash for 2024.
