One person killed near 7855 S WESTERN AVE in Ashburn

A driver was killed after a Sunday early morning turning collision in Ashburn on September 1, 2024 at 4:18 AM.

The crash occurred near 7855 S WESTERN AVE, at a center turn lane. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2019 CAN-AM was heading north. The police report described the driver, a 41-year-old woman, as going too fast for conditions. She was wearing a non-DOT-compliant motorcycle helmet and she was totally ejected; she was killed.
  • A 2014 Nova BUS LFS operated by the CTA was heading north while turning right and was hit in the side-left. The driver, a 47-year-old man, was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.

Police were notified at 4:18 AM. This was the 20th injurious crash reported in September 2024, and the 12,281st injurious crash reported in 2024. It was the 77th fatal crash for 2024.
